Miss Teen Louisiana International Council Speech

Hailey received recognition from the St Charles Parish Council for winning the title of Miss Teen Louisiana International 2012.
This is her "Thank you/ Platform" speech that she gave after receiving her plaque. She did a great job and we are so proud of her.
I recorded this from my phone so her speech isn't very clear and she was a little nervous so she read a bit fast but her words were so powerful I wanted to put them here so you could read what she said.
SPEECH:
I would like to thank the council members for this recognition. I am honored to have been chosen to represent the State of Louisiana and St. Charles Parish this year for the Miss Teen International System. I am looking forward to competing at Nationals in Chicago in July but most importantly I am excited about spending the next year creating awareness for a personal passion of mine which is Art- all different kinds of art and how important it is that Art Education programs are available to kids of all ages in public schools.
I am passionate about art in many forms because it has always given me some form of an outlet to express myself. I am involved in dance and theatre/ talented drama but I also love to paint, sing, and play the guitar. Art allows me to be creative, inventive, original, and most importantly it allows me to be me. Art expands my mind and my critical thinking skills and allows me to establish a certain uniqueness that is all about me.
As a student in St. Charles Parish, I am fortunate that I have the opportunities available to me to participate in many forms of Art Education but there are many schools in Louisiana and across the United States that are not as fortunate. Across the country many Art Programs are lost everyday from public schools due to budget cuts. Several studies have proven that Art Education builds self-esteem, improves academic scores and achievement, and boosts self-confidence.
Art has given me the ability to change the way I look at things, including myself. Art is a celebration of uniqueness and a tool that can be used in teaching all of the necessary education fundamentals, such as Math, English, History, and Science. Therefore, I feel that the elimination of these programs from the school curriculum silences an expressive spirit that is within every student of all ages.
I would like to thank you again for this recognition and I would also like to thank you for your time.
