The Doctor of Physical Therapy program at the University of South
Alabama is an 8-semester (just over 2 & 1/2 years) graduate program to
enter the physical therapy profession. Located in historic Mobile,
Alabama near the white sandy beaches of the Gulf of Mexico, the faculty
are committed to facilitating optimal learning among DPT students. We
balance a high expectation for student engagement in learning (graduate
school is not easy) with a high level of encouragement, support,
nurture, and fun! And teh combination pays off as the program has
strong outcomes and a strong reputation with clinical facilities that
seek our graduates upon graduation. This video, created by the DPT
Class of 2011 and produced by classmate Jena Smith, highlights, from the
student perspective, the strengths of the program. Our fabulous new
building, on the University main campus, with wireless Internet
throughout, is ideally designed and equipped with classroom, teaching
lab and research lab space to stimulate both knowledge-based and
skill-based learning for professional PT practice across all clinical
settings. Our clinical education includes Internship available at over
300 clinical facilities located across the U.S from Florida to Hawaii.
The eight full-time faculty along with part-time faculty have over 125
years of collective teaching experience, and combine proven
instructional pedagogy and experience with new ideas and technology. In
addition to PT credentials, some faculty also have expertise or
specialization in athletic training, biomechanics, research, pediatrics,
geriatrics, wound management, women's health, aquatics, orthopedic
manual therapy, and sports PT. We have all the areas covered and
covered well. I think you can tell that PT school is the hardest thing
we've ever done, but it is a blast: We learn well, but we also have
